  2. Grab a large bowl, Mix and stir these ingredients until combined.

  3. Measure out one and a half cups of boiling water.

  4. Slowly add the water to the dry ingredients making sure you're mixing each time.

  5. Add the colours of your choice! Make sure to separate into different bowls if you want different colours for your dough.

  6. Add the water until the dough reaches a sticky consistency.

  7. Allow to cool.

  8. Once the dough is cool it is now time to kneed the dough. Keep kneading the dough until the stickiness is gone. If needed add a little more flower to the dough whilst kneading it.

The Benefits Of Cooking With Children

While we all dread the mess when it comes to cooking and baking with children it is important for them to learn skills for later in life. Allowing your child to build self confidence - supporting and encouraging your child helps them feel important and they're contribution to the family has been appreciated.

1. Cleaning

Encouraging your children to help you clean up is another important step in teaching them important life skills. They learn the importance of responsibility and team work when helping you or their siblings clean. For younger children a simple task like putting away the bowl you used is a great start and for older children helping clean the dishes they used teaches them the importance of cleaning the mess they made.

2. Imagination

Play dough allows the children to be creative and have a world full of imagination. They are able to use their senses and creativity to design their own little world right at the tip of their fingers.

3. Sensory Skills

Children, young children especially, rely on their senses to explore the world. Cooking with your children explores the senses of hearing, smell, touch and taste. Cooking allows children to explore and focus on the fine motor skills. this teaches the child to use his/her eyes, nose, skin, tongue and ears to observe the items your cooking with. We know how frustrating it can be to watch your child make a mess but it is one important step for your child to develop their sensory skills.

4. Math and Science Skills

You can increase your child’s enthusiasm for science and math through cooking. According to studies experimenting with recipes and cooking in the kitchen offers children practical, hands-on experience. Following the steps of a recipe involves reading and sequencing skills. Math also comes into play with measuring ingredients.

Encourage your children to get involved and make a mess with you because we don't remember the days, we remember the memories!
